If there was ever a food holiday to celebrate, would National Brownie Day not be it? That’s why this year, on December 8th, the sweet smells of chocolate will be coming from my kitchen. I’m not going to lie. I am a diehard brownie fanatic. I’m not quite sure there is a brownie that I’ve tried that I didn’t like. Seriously, what’s not to love about warm, ooey-gooey chocolate? So if you are like me and want to take celebrating National Brownie Day seriously, here are some of the best recipes I have stumbled across in my 20+ years of cooking.
Traditional Boxed Brownies vs Homemade
I truly think that you can’t go wrong either way. It’s a matter of how much time you have on your hands to devote to making these yummy morsels. If you are limited with the time that you can spend preparing your dessert, then I say the Betty Crocker Triple Chocolate Brownie Mix has been voted the favorite in our house. It has simple easy to follow instructions and has chunks of Hershey’s chocolate throughout the brownie. But if you happen to have free time and want to see what homemade brownies are all about, I urge you to stop over at The Stay at Home Chef and give their recipe a try. I promise you won’t be sorry.
Looking to jazz up your traditional brownies?
I have found a few amazing recipes that really take brownies from good to out-of-this-world. My three favorite altered dishes are:
Smore’s Brownies
When it’s peak summertime season, I love putting a spin on traditional brownies by making S’mores Brownies. These start with a graham cracker crust, followed by a layer of marshmallow and then topped with your brownie mix. This can be easily done with a box brownie mix. If you are wanting to try something homemade in this instance, check out the Fudgy S’mores Brownies from Meatloaf And Melodrama.
Andes Mint Brownies
I’ve been making different variations of the Andes Brownies for several years. But this past March I stumbled across a recipe that put all others to shame. Since then, the Mint Chocolate Chip Brownies from Delish are a fan favorite everywhere I take them.
Cheesecake Brownies
Do you like brownies and cheesecake, but want the best of both worlds? These Cheesecake Brownies are sure to hit the spot. And even though I usually eat my brownies while they are still warm from the oven, I have to agree with Kara from Creations by Kara, that these are amazing chilled.
Want the brownie texture, but not a fan of chocolate?
Then look no further. These Strawberry Brownies with a sugar glaze are amazing. Oh, and they are super simple to make. I have made these sweet morsels several times through the years for church potlucks, family gatherings, and just a lazy Sunday afternoon.
So there you have it, five delectable recipes and one boxed mix to try this year for National Brownie Day.
