What we’re watching… Dollface on Hulu

I was recently listening to an Episode of The Kate and Mike Show {my favorite podcast} where Kate said she had trouble watching Workin’ Moms because it hit too close to home. I’d imagine my reaction to Dollface would have been similar if it had come out when I was 21 {that’s about 14 years ago, if you’re curious}. It really did hit close to home… but at least I’m now 14 years removed from that time.

The premise is that Jules’ {Kat Dennings} boyfriend breaks up with her after 5 years and she slowly realizes that over those 5 years she has completely abandoned all of her friends. She has to work to reestablish those friendships and rebuild trust in herself as an individual. An almost entirely similar situation happened to me when I was 20 and it somehow still felt so real, today. To this day, I am beyond grateful for the friends who took me back and the group of friends I found afterwards.

This show is so good. The girl cast is funny and polished in an LA way that gives this mid-thirties, wife, mom, and East Coast girl more than a bit of wonderment. This is really a must watch for all women, especially the Wizard of Oz parody episode 09.

What we’re thinking about… Community

A few months ago, we shared a meme from Mom Break about all the things moms feel but don’t talk about. The response to this share was so unbelievably overwhelming. But, it got us thinking about the need to support and build community around new moms and moms who feel isolated or lonely. And so, The Lonely Mom’s Club by Ur Basic Mom was born!

The completely FREE online community will feature resources and support for new moms, stay-at-home moms, work-from-home moms, or ANY mom that is struggling to find support and feel connected. You can join now, but we will officially kick-off in January 2020 with weekly themes and resource shares. Hope to see you there!
