What we’re watching… The Family on Netflix
Chelsea recommended this new Netflix docuseries. She was horrified by the intersection of politics and organized religion. I have to be honest, though… I’m 2 episodes in and nothing has even surprised me yet. Maybe I’m cynical or maybe it’s my academic background in both Political Science and Theology. I keep waiting for the big shock and so far it’s been let downs. If it hadn’t been recommended by a friend, I’d have stopped after the first episode. I’ll probably finish this limited series tonight, so maybe my opinion will change.
Have you binged The Family on Netflix, yet? What did you think?
What we’re reading… The Heaven Intended Series by Amanda Lauer
I just started the Heaven Intended series by Amanda Laurer. I have to admit, I really like them, so far. There are three books in this series and they follow a young couple through the Civil War and beyond. These are very well written and descriptive. Admittedly, historical fiction is my favorite book genre. Sometimes, though, I’ve found that the “love scenes” can be a little cringy and very clearly written by one particular gender (read: Ken Follett Century Trilogy). No issue with that, here.
Keep your eye on the blog for a full review of this series and a giveaway of all three books later this week!
What we’re obsessed with… Allllll the Miley/Liam and Brody/Kaitlynn Drama
Can. Not. Get. Enough. Seriously, we’ve been following all the twists and turns with our popcorn out. First, Brody and Kaitlynn split (like, duh, he’s the worst). Then Miley and Kaitlynn are living it up on an Italian vacay. Next, Brody starts #hotgirlsummer. Before we know it, Liam and Miley announce their separation. THEN THE MILEY/KAITLYNN MAKE-OUT PICS ROCK THE INTERNET. Miley replies to Brody’s comment with all the snark. And finally, Miley releases her clearly-about-Liam break up banger.
I cannot get off this roller coaster. Please tell us alllll your thoughts on this dram.
What we’re making… Whole chicken on the grill
You may have seen me mention that we participate in our local CSA farm share. As part of it, we’ve gotten a ton of blueberries (check out the cobbler recipe we shared last week), but also 10 whole chickens! We’ve been getting creative with how we’re cooking them up. The latest way was on the grill slathered in a homemade dry rub.
We split the chicken down it’s spine, patted it down with a yummy dry rub, put it on the grill, covered and over a water pan, for 1 hour. After an hour, we checked on it and applied our favorite BBQ sauce. We cooked for another half our, checking on it and re-applying BBQ sauce after 15minutes.
It was sooooooo good, guys! Like I can’t get over it. Juicy and flavorful! Plus, we were eating the leftovers for almost an entire week!
