I’m making this list to tell you to take a vacation without your kids. I say this not to discourage you from still also vacationing with the little ones in tow because I do enjoy that too. But, I recently went away for a long weekend with my husband and it was SO SO refreshing! I missed the kids, sure, but I knew that they were safe and well taken care of with my MIL, so I was able to truly relax and I was able to…
- “I do what I want” But seriously, I could do what I wanted. If I had to pee, I just went. If I wanted to stop and take in the fresh air, I could. I didn’t have to account for anyone, but me, myself and I!
- “Day Drinking” Oh hello there mimosa, wine, vodka…you name it, I can sip it! Yes, I do drink in front of my kids, but I need to remember to hydrate and of course remain responsible. On vacation, there are no worries…so bring on the drinks!
- “Enjoy Food” Yes, I do eat food when I’m with my kids, but it seems that every time we go out to eat and my plate of hot food is put in front of me, one of my daughters has to ‘”go potty,” and by “go potty” they mean poop and take at least 10 minutes, or however long it takes for my food to get cold at the table. So, although I do eat with my kids, my meal is rarely hot and uninterrupted.
- “SLEEP” Do I need to explain this one? Sleep…all through the night, and optional naps, if my little heart desires.
- “Activities” I know, you’re thinking I already do too many activities at home with the kids! But I’m thinking more along the lines of things YOU want to do…Shopping, walking at leisure, sightseeing, etc….I can plan any activity I want and not have to rush through it for fear of a meltdown, pee break, snack break, sibling fight…*I could go on here* It was so nice to look at knick-knacks and not because I had a strict list to stick to because of time restrictions. Activities done in leisure….so wonderful.
The bottom line here is that we all deserve a break from the everyday madness. Even if it is just one night away, it is still glorious and much needed! Don’t feel guilty! This list can apply to a girls night away, a trip with the hubby, or even a night away ALONE! Re-read that list above, close your eyes, and imagine your next destination 😉
