I was introduced to the deals the Dollar Store has when I was wedding planning (see detail shots here). I had all of these ideas for gorgeous table decor, but when adding up how much the vases, candles, frames, and everything else that goes into a wedding cost, I immediately began a search for how to save some moolah on these items I’d use once and then never again. So, yes, you can get all of the above-listed things at Dollar Tree and on their website, by the case if you need high quantities of them too. However, I didn’t stop there. You can find some home essentials at your local dollar store (or again, online) that will save you tons of money!
- Gift Bags: I’m always shocked by how much Hallmark or other stores charge for a gift bag. It doesn’t help that you spend near $5 for a gift bag that you immediately give away. Here is how the dollar store comes into play, they have walls of gift bags. Definitely check the bag and handles for quality (some aren’t great), but I LOVE the recycled ones that they offer in tons of solid colors. The handles are good quality and they sometimes come in packs of 3. If you’re doing the math, that’s 3 gift bags for $1.
- Other gift wrap options: You can complete your gift wrapping with tissue paper, bows and even wrapping paper if you’re not a gift bag gal. You save tons when going to the dollar store instead of a Hallmark or CVS. They also have greeting cards for $1!
- Seasonal Decor: My son loves the window clings (or gel ones) for each holiday. I’d suggest hitting up your dollar store when they first put out their seasonal decor store to score the best stuff. For instance, I got ALL of our Easter basket items there, as well as some Luau stuff for a school party, too. For one-time use items, why would you pay more than $1?!
- Shower curtains: Ok, now we’re taking it to the bathroom. Long gone are the days of spending between $9-14 for a shower curtain. I’ve purchased shower curtains at HomeGoods and Target and those were the prices I paid. Then, when perusing the aisles of Dollar Tree, I saw a shower curtain and I haven’t turned back since. I’m kinda crazy about changing my shower curtain frequently, so paying $1 for one doesn’t make me feel bad about changing it every other month or so.
- Crafting options: Whether you’re making personalized mason jars, wine glasses, or a floral wreath. Dollar Tree has what you need to make your project. Like I mentioned before, I bought vases and tea light holders for my wedding at the dollar store. Mason jars are a popular item to personalize for gifts and don’t spend $5 per jar when you can spend $1.
- Candy: Yup, name brand stuff too! If you’re doing gift bags for a kids party or getting ready for Halloween, make this your first stop. I get angry when Halloween rolls around and the grocery store is charging $20 for a big bag of candy. Nope, no more; hello dollar store.
- Cleaning: Scrub brushes, sponges, scouring pads, buckets. Yes, they have them all and since these are items I frequently replace, I’m not spending lots of money on them. Spend a dollar and then replace when needed.
- Tupperware: The dollar store has TONS of Tupperware options (please note, it might not be Tupperware brand). Also, their Tupperware is super cute. Like, chevron print on green Tupperware, cute. Nothing kills me more than having to throw away Tupperware because I can’t find the matching lid, especially when I spent a pretty penny on it. Check out your local dollar store to see what options they offer for these pieces.
- Aluminum Trays: Having a big party? Making a big casserole or baked ziti? You can get a pack of giant aluminum cooking trays at the dollar store for whatever you are cookin’ up! They also have the trays if you are using sternos for a catering setup. You can find the sternos used to keep your food warm in the party decor section, near the tablecloths, paper plates, and disposable cups.
- Kids craft supplies: Paint, markers, construction paper, stickers. I don’t know about you, but if I find another broken crayon or marker without a lid, I might lose it. This leads to me buying these items at the dollar store, at least until my son appreciates quality art supplies. They have a slew of coloring books and other art supplies. I’m ok with broken crayons if it costs less than a penny.
