I discovered a whole new genre of books thanks to #booktok and #momswhoread on TikTok. Also, if you read the hashtag as MOMS WHORE AD, you are not alone.
*Fair warning, these are pretty steamy books with lots of explicit scenes and multiple partners.
These books follow a woman who ends up in a Reverse Harem with multiple male partners. At first, I was like, what am I reading? But whoa, these books are hot. I never thought I would read about one woman with multiple partners. I mean, I’ve only had one partner my whole life, so I literally have zero knowledge of this.
But, I discovered that I like seeing how much these men care for their woman. They would die for her. Protect her at all costs and have lots of hot sex. The sex is a bonus.
Is this what your late 30s is all about? Living vicariously through steamy books? Is that as good as it gets?
No.
Do not accept mediocre for your life. You can make your sex life fun and exciting with your partner. You can explore other options, too, such as Kayse’s post about her polyamorous relationship.
For now, this is how I will explore my adventurous side.
These books have various sub-genres: dark romance, friends to enemies, adult, wolves, vampires, shifters, bullies, faeries, academy, college. I have not read all of them, but I am getting there!
Someone recommended the series, Madison Kate.
It took me a minute to get into it, but whoa! By the end of the fourth book, I was ready to re-read it.
No spoilers, but Madison Kate is a young adult who comes home after being sent away to another country to live with her aunt. Her world has been turned upside down after she was sent away. Originally she was arrested, but her father was involved in politics and got away for a year. When she comes home, her dad is remarried and leaves on vacation, and she is left with her new step-brother and his best friends.
It is on the taboo side, including step brother romance, multiple partners, and wild romps in the sheets. The story isn’t all about sex, but about sex, love, protecting Madison Kate, and doing everything to protect your inner circle. All four books are available on Kindle Unlimited.
There are four books in this series, and it does overlap with another series by Tate James called the Hades Series. You do not need to read the Madison Kate Series to read the Hades series.
The Hades series is not yet complete, so I have only read the first one because I do not like waiting for the next one! I am more impatient with book cliffhangers than tv show finales!
Next up, I read Kit Davenport, which dabbles in the supernatural.
It is a little slow to get started, but it does set a nice backstory that helps throughout. There are a lot of characters to track, but the author does an excellent job of setting up each of them with distinctive individual traits.
Kit is a young woman in high school even though she is over 18, and she has been on a mission to punish those who hurt her in the past. Trigger warning for descriptions of child abuse. I personally skipped over them because, at some point, I do not need to read them when I have dealt with this for years in my line of work. Kit has powers which means she cannot get hurt, and she has superhuman strength, and the rest will be revealed later. The book is available as a complete series (eight books total) on Kindle Unlimited.
Also, I should note that Tate James is Australian so what we may think are misspellings are her native Australian English. I was able to understand any Australian-specific references without googling, and there are not many.
Next, I dove into the dark high school bully romance called Kings of Quarantine.
Oooofff, this was a doozy. Trigger warning for pretty severe bullying in the first two books that I almost stopped, but I am so glad I did not.
The trigger warning from the author: “This is a high school bully reverse harem series, which means the main character will end up with multiple love interests. It may have triggers for some as it has off the charts angst, dark love-hate themes, scenes of intense bullying, sexual scenes and some violence (not aimed towards the main character) and is not for the faint of heart. Prepare to enroll at Everlake Prep.”
This series takes place in the Pacific Northwest, and Tatum is newly enrolled in Everlake Prep during a worldwide pandemic. Sound familiar? It was published during lockdown by two authors who happen to be sisters. Tatum becomes the target of the Brutal Boys, aka the Night Keepers, after standing up for those that do not stand up for themselves. She makes a deal with them to keep herself safe at school after becoming the target when news of her dad (who is a scientist) has had accusations against him. Tatum is the target for everyone in the world.
There are four books in the series, and I love the ending! No spoilers, so I won’t tell you, but you do get peace at the end after going through the Brutal Boys, aka the Night Keepers, harsh stories of bullying Tatum.
I found it helpful to know some of the abbreviations before going into these books. Here are some common ones.
HEA=Happily Ever After
KU= Kindle Unlimited.
MC=Motorcycle Club or Main Character
MFM= two straight males with no physical relationship between the men. More Ms mean more males.
MMF= males with a physical relationship and a physical relationship with the female and sometimes all at the same time.
NSFW=Not Safe For Work (always a good one but the benefits of reading on an e-reader because no one can see the covers! Just hope no one peeks over your shoulder.)
RH= Reverse Harem- multiple male partners with one female.
SA=standalone
T= If you see the T on its own, that means it contains “Taboo” content.
Also I have Kindle Paperwhite because it’s lightweight, easier on my eyes than a phone, I can throw it in my purse and go! Perfect for killing time at sports pick ups, waiting at the doctor, lunch break, pool day, and the rare bath alone. I have even taken mine to hide in the shower because it is waterproof! My kids (or anyone else) cannot see the covers that can be slightly inappropriate and draw attention to it. If you are wondering if your kids can see your books on their Kindles, they can’t if you have separate accounts. Huge perk! I also put a pop socket on mine so it is easy to hold and less likely for my clumsy self to drop it.
Stay tuned for my next blog post on taboo (T) romances.
