I have been searching for years for the perfect planner/journal/organizer. I don’t know about any of you, but I am a worrier and I have an anxious personality. Having order in my life truly makes me feel better about life overall **I mean this also may be the sentiment of mothers everywhere, but for me especially, I need control!** I always found that traditional planners didn’t leave me enough space for creativity **or my lists: to-do lists, shopping lists, get-my-life-together lists, goal lists** you name it and I could create a list to solve it. So, one day, when I was casually looking around Pinterest, for a pin to save and never get to, I came across the bullet journal. Intrigued by the word “journal,” I clicked on the link and read about the journal-of-all-journals.
Essentially, with a bullet journal, you have a blank canvas to create your own daily plan, weekly or monthly plan, to-do list, motivational quote page **I mean you name it, you can make it happen in a bullet journal.** I read about different ways people used their bullet journals and the materials they used, and I have found that these items have been essential for me:
What I like about these particular notebooks are the dots so I can make things symmetrical. I also love the index, so that I can put page numbers to the more important lists and am able to return to them later.
The Pens:
These different pens and markers have served me well for over a year and are just what I need to add a creative flair to my journal.
Once you have these materials, then it’s up to you to make this book whatever you need it to be. Every Sunday night, I create my weekly plan…as shown below.
Other than that, I use it as it suits me. Below you will see my list for Christmas Dinner (where I even note what worked and what didn’t so I can return to it the next year). You’ll see I’ll take a page and write a motivational quote to get me through the week. Or, I will write out a calendar to follow a workout schedule. Again, the beauty of this book is the flexibility and creativity that it lends.
There are a million other more creative and fun ideas on Pinterest. I am still a newbie to this latest trend, but I plan on keeping up with this journal for my own sanity and for the sake of “to-do” lists everywhere.
