Regardless of who you are rooting for, there are two constants when it comes to the Super Bowl. First, the commercials are just as much of a draw as the big game itself. And second, your snack options (aka Super Bowl munchies) better be on point. That is where I come in handy this year.
Tried and True Super Bowl Munchies
- Dips One of the biggest staples in my Super Bowl Menu Planning each year has to be dips. The two that you will always find in my kitchen for that magical Sunday each year are Rotel Cheese Dip and Buffalo Chicken Dip.
- Sandwiches To me, any Super Bowl Party screams for finger foods. And what better option than one of the original finger foods, sandwiches. One of my absolute favorites to make for our watching party are these amazing ham and cheese sliders.
- Cheese Ball Like with the dips listed above, I can’t help but make this cheese ball every year. If you are a fan of any recipe that says it is “cracked out” then this Bacon Ranch Cheese Ball will be right down your alley.
- Veggies and Fruit With all of the heavier options a little fruit and vegetable action is always a great addition. One thing that I love about vegetables and fruit is that the presentation options are endless. You can theme it like a football or even the field. You can also do individual veggie cups or this awesome Fruit Salad To-Go.
- Meatballs and/or Cocktail Weiners It never fails that we have some form of meat thrown in the crock pot with a finger licking sauce poured on top. Both I have found to be super simple, but amazingly flavorful. For crockpot meatballs, I love to just toss in a bag of frozen meatballs, a jar of your favorite grape jelly, and a bottle of Heinz Chili Sauce (this is a secret condiment that will always have a home in my kitchen). And for the cocktail wieners, I like to give it a Hawaiian feel. I drop in a can of pineapple chunks, a bottle of Sweet Baby Ray’s and a 28 oz package of Lil Smokies. Both recipes you can simply set on low and cook for about 2 hours before serving.
New Recipes I’m Trying
So like with any other holiday or pseudo-holiday, you can sometimes feel like you are stuck in a rut. You know, the feeling that you just make the same things over and over again. Well to break up the monotony of our Super Bowl Menu, I went to social media and asked my friends what is on their must have list for game day. And boy did they deliver. Here are the new stars hitting my kitchen this year.
- Creamy Chili Cheese Dip This was brought to my attention by Amanda.
- Jalapeno Poppers My best friend Jessica and her husband Russell have been making poppers for years, so I’m giving it a go this time thanks to you both.
- Crispy Garlic Parmesan Chicken Wings Teresa, Matthew, Leanne, Carla, and Tiffen thank you all for convincing me that I need some chicken wings in my life.
- Ham & Cucumber Sandwiches As my friend Sara said, these sandwiches are just white bread, chive & onion cream cheese, english cucumbers and ham. Her statement that caught me hook, line, and sinker: “It’s a really light and crisp sandwich to balance all the heavy food”. So Sara, this one is being added to my menu thanks to you.
I already feel full just thinking about all the food that we are going to be enjoying. One big bonus to cooking so much this one Sunday each year, the food doesn’t go to waste. Even if it is just my husband and myself, along with our littles, I can easily take the leftovers to work for my lunch the entire next week. So it is effectively killing two birds with one stone.
