Spending Time With the Kids Without Spending Time at the Store
As a school employee, one of the things that I love most about summer is spending time with my kids. And I also love coming up with creative ways for learning. What better way for that togetherness and learning than craft time? And the icing on the cake, these crafts are all things that you can have delivered to your door, so there will be zero time spent picking up supplies.
Rock Painting
One of the easiest crafts for kids of any age has to be rock painting. I adore the fact that it encourages the kids to get outside first and foremost. You should definitely get the kids involved with picking out the rocks they are going to use. We were able to very easily pick these rocks out as we had them in our landscaping. If you do not have rocks directly around your home, go for a walk through the neighborhood. Rocks are truly all around.
Also, acrylic paint and paint brushes are something that I keep on hand. If you don’t have a craft closet like I do, supplies can be ordered from Michael’s or Hobby Lobby and delivered to your door.
DIY Tie Dye
This next craft is something that put me out of my comfort zone just a little. Not only does it offer potential for mess, it also forces me to relinquish more control than what I’m used to. But the end result is happy children with something they can say they truly had a hand in. For the shirts themselves, I ordered from Tees2UrDoor. And just an added piece of advice, certain times of the year they even offer coupon codes that cut the price down by over 50%. For the dye, a quick order for a Tulip One-Step Tie-Dye Kit for Amazon delivered all the colors that we needed.
Magnetic Tile Art
I stumbled across this all-in-one kit while I was perusing Walmart’s app for groceries. What we found when we opened this 4M Magnetic Tile Art kit was some cute little ceramic tiles, a paint brush, magnets, and a small paint set. The girls loved this activity and can’t wait to make more.
Slime
Another fun, yet terribly messy craft option is to make your own slime. We have tried different “recipes” that have each produced slime of varying consistency. Last summer my girls and I even tried out several options to see which turned out the best. If you want to see the recap and discover which ones worked for us, check out my DIY Slime Recipe post.
Sun Catchers
One of the top reasons I chose suncatchers as an afternoon craft for my little people was that they are super easy and they can be customized to fit each child’s personality. And mommy managed to get in on this craft as well. I found the entire Cra-Z-Art My Look Color Change Window Art kit on Target’s website.
Bead Art
A craft from my childhood that I’m thrilled to share with my girls is Perler Bead art. The Perler Bead Sunny Days Activity Bucket that I also found on Target’s website came with 3 stencils, a set of larger plastic tweezers and what seems like an endless supply of beads.
There is also a dinosaur bucket if your little one happens to be a fan of prehistoric reptiles. This craft required that the girls slow down, have patience, and also practice their fine motor skills.
The end result was some cute art and two very happy girls. Word to the wise though, be careful with the iron at the end or yourbeads might melt together a bit more than you are anticipating like it did with our butterfly.
Bird House & Money Bank
If you’ve ever been to Lowe’s early on a Saturday morning, you’ll see signs for their Build and Grow outreach program. But what if it’s not Saturday morning or what if you don’t want to drag your mini me to the store? You can simply go to Lowe’s website and take your pick from several of their Build and Grow Project Kits. Along with a wide variety of project kits, they also offer accessories, such as safety goggles, little hammers, and Lowe’s aprons that are just the right size for your little worker.
This is just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to kid friendly crafts that can be delivered to your door, but they all proved to be winners in our house. So I urge you, don’t spend more time than you need to inside of a store right now. Hop on your computer or closest smart device and order items that can be delivered to your front door. Then get ready to have loads of fun with your children like never before.
