Spring is blooming and after spending much of the winter inside, everyone is wanting to get out of the house and explore. We all know kids can get crazy when they are stuck inside all day. And that can make us parents go crazy, too.
Here are 30 fun Spring bucket list ideas for you and your family to do outside.
Get out the sidewalk chalk
The snow has (hopefully) all melted by now, so it’s time to decorate those sidewalks!
Catch a baseball game
Spring training has already finished, but there are still plenty more ball games going on. Minor league games are just as fun as the big leagues, too!
Play in the rain
As long as it’s safe outside, puddle jumping can be a lot of fun!
Go see the blooms
April showers bring May flowers!
Go on an outdoor scavenger hunt
Make a list of things to find before you go and see how many you can get! Or better yet, make it into a bingo card and see who wins!
Plant flowers
Go to the store and pick out some flowers to transplant or some seed packets and get digging!
Fly a kite
Want to get crafty with this one? Try to make your own kite!
Go to the farmer’s market or your favorite local farm
Restock on your favorite fruits and veggies. Don’t forget your reusable bags!
Feed the ducks
Did you grow up feeding bread to ducks like I did? Well, it turns out that might do more harm than good to our feathered friends. See this post from National Geographic on why you shouldn’t feed bread to ducks, and what to feed them instead.
Make a wish on a dandelion
Even in my 30s, I still find joy in doing this!
Miniature golf
So much more fun than regular golf!
Make a sensory box
This one is especially fun for the littles. Grab an unused shoebox and go outside to collect things like leaves, rocks, grass or flower petals. Place them all in the box and hand it to your child. Have them close their eyes, reach in the box and describe what they feel. See if they can guess what it is!
Read a book outside
Grab for favorite blanket or lawn chair and take in the fresh spring air.
Have a picnic
Pack a lunch and head to a favorite outdoor spot.
Go to a new playground
Do a quick search of playgrounds and parks in your area and you just might find something new!
Make a tire swing
Many tire shops will sell their used tires for cheap, just make sure you call ahead and check!
Climb a tree
Go find the biggest (and safest) tree out there and see how high you can go!
Go to your local National Park, State Park or recreation area
Lake Mead National Recreation Area
Draw or paint what you see outside
Grab your art supplies and find a bench somewhere and find the artists inside your littles.
Play hide and seek
Find new hiding places outside that are different from the same ones always used inside.
Make a bird feeder
There are tons of DIY and upcycle ideas on Pinterest!
Look at the stars
Lay down and have your littles tell you what they see. See if they can spot the planes or satellites. Have an older kid? Try to get them to spot constellations!
Go camping
Even if it is just for one night in your backyard. Don’t forget to make s’mores!
Make a rain gauge
This can be a fun experiment for the older kids with the spring showers!
Have a water balloon fight
This one is an especially fun way to cool off on a warm, spring day!
Go on a family bike ride
Explore a new area on your bikes!
Visit a petting zoo
Teach the kids about animals and caring for them.
Make a fairy garden
This is a handy way to use up any miscellaneous gardening items you may have laying around!
Paint rocks
If you paint enough rocks, you can make your little their own special rock garden!
