On Monday, Rachel Lindsay (The Bachelorette) took on the hometown dates. This is the point in the “competition” for her heart where we get to see where the guys come from and one of my favorite episodes in the show overall. Many outlets are reporting that producers went too far, and we’ll go over if that is, in fact, true, and if so, why?
The first hometown visit was Eric. I have now made the switch to Team Eric. Previously I was all about Peter and Dean, but Eric seems to be the most down-to-earth and on her level. I loved how transparent Eric was and he wasn’t afraid to share about the dark past of his family (he mentions how many friends and family members took to the streets to sell drugs to make a living). Eric is from Baltimore, which is no joke once you get past the marina/waterfront. There were some red flags of Eric never being in love before. I’m not sure if this is so much of a concern for me, but it was mentioned quite a bit. Also, Eric’s mom and him discussed her parenting approach of not being quite nurturing, to avoid him relying on her like she saw with other males in their circle. Also, Eric’s aunt was pretty much the hit of the party! I think she brought up valid points about Rachel’s quest to find love as the first black female Bachelorette. Was this a plant question by producers, probably.
Next up was Bryan. Oh, how many red flags can pop up over the course of one hometown visit? I’m not quite sure what is more concerning, the fact that Bryan’s mom noticed his hair cut was different, that he had lost weight or that she threatened to “kill” Rachel. I lost count of how many times she said “he was the love of her life.” She seems a bit overbearing. Also, he wore jogger sweatpants. I know they’re popular, but seriously? There was so much face touching and kissing, like can they have a deeper conversation and NOT make out, or is it all physical? I did, however, agree with Bryan’s mom’s point… “You meet tons of women and you want to go on a show to find someone? Why?” The answer is so he can become Instagram famous or the next Bachelor.
Then there’s Peter. Oh Peter. I haven’t been as-in-love with Peter as the rest of the world. Yeah, he’s got a unique look and he’s not some young dude, but the former model has lots of commitment issues in my opinion. He broke up with his last girlfriend because he couldn’t give her what she wanted and had lots of “walls.” I know he was the first guy to step out of the limo and Rachel has taken a liking to him, but I’m not that impressed. Peter’s mom confirmed to Rachel that he might not be ready for marriage, but she’s sure he’d settle down and start a family. Um, hello Rachel, you want some dude to impregnate you, but not be your husband? I don’t think that’s what she’s looking for? Finally, we got to see Peter play with his niece and o-m-g he loves kids, so cute. Does that mean he’s ready to have his own? The answer is no. I’m going to take his quote of being “f*cking terrified” when chatting it up with his friends, and say he’s the next to go.
