Pizza is something that all of my family will eat, and there will never be a complaint. So, on days that I struggle with a plan for dinner, (and I know I’m not the only one) I need a quick pizza sauce recipe that I know everyone in my family will love. I always have the ingredients on hand for just a basic cheese pizza, and I personally enjoy making my sauce from scratch. I love that I can control the ingredients and make the sauce just the way I like it.
Pizza is seriously the easiest thing to make from almost scratch. Almost scratch is where you take a shortcut to help you out on the time you have to put into making dinner. One thing I buy is pizza dough. I usually get it from Trader Joe’s, but this time I got some frozen from HEB (which is our Texas grocery store). If I have the time, and really want to get my kids involved, I have a homemade pizza dough recipe.
Making the pizza sauce is something that is very quick and easy, which is great for those who are on special diets or have special dietary needs. It takes me all of 10 minutes to make the sauce from scratch. Now, that doesn’t mean I don’t pick up some pizza sauce while I’m at Trader Joe’s, because sometimes I do. And if you pick up the pre-made sauce, it only makes the whole pizza making process even easier.
Here’s what you need to make my Quick and Easy 10-minute Pizza Sauce:
- 28 ounce can of crushed tomatoes
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- ½ tablespoon sugar*
- 1 tablespoon of oregano
- 1 tablespoon of basil
- 1 tsp thyme
- 1 tsp of garlic powder
Combine all the ingredients in a sauce pan and bring to the boil. Once it has boiled, reduce to a simmer and let it be for 10 minutes to let the flavors combine. Let it cool a little and then you are ready to sauce and top your pizzas.
This sauce can be made ahead of time and refrigerated for a few days. You can also use this for dipping mozzarella sticks, calzones, stromboli, or anything you would need a pizza sauce for!
What are your favorite pizza toppings?
My kids are cheese pizza lovers all the way. The husband is all about a meat lover’s pizza. For me, I have been loving white pizza with caramelized onions and peppers, prosciutto, and arugula, with a balsamic drizzle. It’s delicious!
* You can omit the sugar or use a sugar substitute, if you have issues with sugar. The sugar is in the sauce to help cut the acidity of the tomatoes.
