A little known “holiday” which is, now, near and dear to my heart is a day dedicated to vodka. Who knew that there was a National Vodka day? I’m here to tell ya, there is! As a vodka drinker, I prefer Tito’s or Grey Goose. I have found the more premium brands taste cleaner and have less harshness.
In honor of this day, I would like to share a few of my favorite vodka drinks:
- Vodka soda with lime. A super easy and refreshing beverage served in a highball glass.
● 1 ½ oz Vodka
● Club soda
● lime juice/fresh lime
Pour vodka over ice, fill the glass with club soda and top with lime to taste. This one is also good with flavored vodka, like vanilla. Just nix the lime as it would taste pretty odd.
2) Diiiiirty Vodka Martini – as in SUPER dirty. I have to admit, this vintage drink makes me feel a little sophisticated, because who doesn’t want to feel like James Bond every once in a while? It doesn’t hurt that it comes with olives as a snack either. The saltiness really lends a nice flavor to the drink.
● 1 ½ oz Vodka
● dash dry vermouth
● ½ oz olive brine from jar
● 3-4 stuffed olives (my favorites are blue cheese stuffed)
Shake all ingredients in a shaker with ice until chilled and pour into martini glass. Garnish with olives and enjoy!
3) Moscow Mule. This was introduced to me a few years ago and it quickly became one of my preferred drinks. The Moscow Mule was created by Smirnoff in the 1940’s in the copper mug, which makes it more fun to drink – actually it’s cute but not necessary to the flavor of the cocktail.
● 1 ½ oz Vodka
● 4 oz Ginger Beer
● lime juice
Squeeze lime over ice in a copper mug or a Collins glass if you don’t have a mug. Add vodka and ginger beer, stir and enjoy!
I hope these recipes give you some drink ideas as you plan to celebrate National Vodka Day. As it happens, it falls on a Friday this year so why not grab your favorite guy or girl and make it a date night?!
Cheers! Salud! Prost! Sláinte!
