I love makeup… when I wear it. Some days I have a full face on, some days I barely fill in my brows. Working from home a few days a week will do that to you. I have made progress from working in my pajamas though. {small victories} For the days that I am actually doing my makeup, I don’t have the time to sit in front of my mirror for very long. Compared to the nights in the past where I’d watch YouTube makeup tutorials {my fav gurl right here if you wanna get lost in a black hole} and mimic their every move… that was many moons ago.
Now, in full out mom mode, I like to keep things simple and I’ll add in a few optional items I use if I’m feeling fancy.
Prep & Prime that skin ladies… I ALWAYS moisturize, but I usually forget to prime. I have super sensitive skin {rosacea survivor right here} and my skin is always drying out. I’m currently using Clinique’s Dramatically Different Moisturizing Lotion. My mom always used Clinique products {and still does} so I went to a classic to help with my skin. If I remember to use a primer, my go-to is Younique’s Glorious Face Primer.
If I’m doing low-key makeup I stick with using just a tinted moisturizer/BB Cream on my cheeks {this is where the majority of my rosacea shows up} and if I’m being fancy I use foundation. I love that you only need a few drops of this foundation to get all over coverage. Next, I conceal {the bags under my eyes, the red nose, the furrowed brow, my skin above my lip that gets darker and looks like I have a mustache, but I don’t} yup, cover all that ish up. See ya.
I was intro’d to this concealer when I left my makeup bag at home when heading to a wedding and had to use the contents of my SIL’s makeup bag, who is one of those girls who doesn’t need like actual makeup to look fab. Thank goodness she had concealer and I had bronzer that day, I survived. I ordered this concealer the next day and think it’s amazing.
Next up, contour. I got the Elf Contour kit at like CVS. However, when I need more I use my Beachfront bronzer and A La Mode illuminizer. Some days, I use them all. I mean, YOLO, right? I do the 3 technique on my face getting my cheekbones, forehead/hairline, and jaw. I also do the sides of my nose to make it look skinnier. Blush for fancy ladies.
I use lots of Younique products because three years ago I loved everything they ever made. Then, two years ago, I became one of those gals that had a Facebook party and group and made crazy videos showing how their makeup wipes can take Sharpie off your face. Yep. Did that. {Spoiler: the wipes actually do take off Sharpie}
Brows. Holy brows. I was an Anastasia gurl for a long long time. I go back and forth sometimes when I want a stronger brow. However, when I’m in a rush and want a simple, not crazy bold brow, I use this Brow Liner. I LOVE how thin the pencil is so you can do hairlike strokes. When I want to step up my brow game, I go back to Anastasia’s Brow Pomade. Using the pomade takes some getting used to and you have to use a VERY little amount at a time. It could go wrong really quickly and easily if you get pomade happy. Think Frida Kahlo.
Apparently, the Tarte palette I LOVE LOVE LOVE is no longer available, but it’s called Maneater. It’s the perfect collection of nude to brown shades. Here’s a nice alternative with just as many {actually more} pretty brown hues.
FINALLY, mascara. It feels like the 5-minute mom makeup might take longer, but it doesn’t. I’m just quite the wordsmith. I’m a connoisseur of mascara. I have a few favs and they are:
- Moodstruck Epic Mascara This is the perfect formula, it doesn’t clump and it definitely showcases any length you have and adds a little umpf too. The brush is perfection {I’m picky about mascara brushes}.
- Smashbox Full Exposure Mascara: This was another find in my SILs makeup bag. The brush is a good size and great for application. I love the thickness of the mascara {a little thicker than Epic, above}. I was using this one religiously until Epic came along.
- Estee Lauder Sumptuous Extreme Lash {yada yada yada} Mascara: Another fav, similar to Smashbox, but a little messier. The brush felt a little too big for me and made it harder to apply. BUT I did love the formula of the mascara, thin and not clumpy.
To summarize, I do the following steps:
- Moisturize {Prime}
- BB Cream {Foundation}
- Conceal
- Contour {Blush}
- Brows
- Eye Shadow
- Mascara
- Set that sh*t {you don’t want all your hard work to go to waste!}
