My parents were Amway distributors when I was a kid. I remember the laundry detergent and the toothpaste along with catalogs of household items. While my Dad is no longer actively marketing this MLM, 25 years later, he still stays up-to-date with his membership. That’s commitment and loyalty. Pre-internet, those companies meant leg work, inventory, and parties with actual people.
Multi-Level Marketing (MLM), or Direct Sales, have taken off with the prevalence of social media. I will be the first to admit, I’ve dabbled in products, blocked aggressive sellers, bought stuff I hated, been to actual parties, laughed at those expecting to “get rich quick”, and had a very wrong idea of how MLM’s work and why they exist.
Eight months ago, my cousin approached me. We had both had similar health experiences, including secondary sepsis, during our last pregnancies and migraines since childhood. She had started this system her college friend shared, and she felt better. For months she explained why this was different, how she was feeling, what her doctors said, testimony of others.
For 6 long months, I drug my feet and it ate away at my curious mind.
When you research a company, especially an MLM, no one only looks at the good. I specifically went looking for the rough edges. The rich person at the top of the pyramid wasn’t there. People with kidney problems needed less dialysis. People got off prescription meds WITH the advisement of their doctors. It was all too good to be true. My cousin was feeling great. Her mom felt great. The incentives and money my cousin was making and receiving was real, quit-her-day-job money. I was hooked in after six months of research.
I started sharing what I found about my new MLM products as soon as I ordered them. I wanted my products paid for, and had a few friends who I knew would benefit if these products lived up to the hype. By my second week on the product, I had three people trying this with me. We all hated being burnt out, tired and grumpy.
Basically the sentiment of “we are sick and tired of being sick and tired,” rang truer than anything for us.
My first two weeks were hard. I was in the middle of a very necessary gut detox and my grandma’s health started failing. I was promised the products would help my anxiety and depression and that was THE test. I was exceptionally close to my grandma and had often said her death would be the cause of my nervous breakdown. But it didn’t. It was incredibly painful and sad, but I coped.
My first month involved in this MLM resulted in 12 friends joining my team. The ones that were consistent, re-ordered and fell in love with their gut health as much as I did. I had seen an increase in my sleep and energy, even though I gave up caffeine (even my morning coffee) and had no sugar cravings. Giving up stress eating my 4 pm bag of gummy bears was an incredible sign that body was changing. I had a reduction in migraines, seasonal allergies, bloat, and joint pain. I didn’t cringe every time my kids wanted me to race them or jump on the trampoline.
My second month of taking these products, I asked my pediatrician about them for my kiddos. She said she would look into them because they are all natural, bioavailable, plant-based, and GMO-free. These products can even be covered with a prescription and an HSA account. My second month, with the addition of what we call our “chill pill”, my life-long mental health struggle was balancing out. I didn’t wake up in a panic about the kids or the world anymore. My daughter was being referred to a psychologist for suspected generalized anxiety disorder and that day, I started her on our kid’s line, while awaiting the doctor on her approval to start Skylar on smaller doses of our adult line.
I am currently in our recommended window of adjustment. With a 60 day money back guarantee on all products, trying it for 90 days didn’t seem like a big deal to me. I was wrong about how big of a deal it would be. The benefits I see in my whole family (even my one-year-old) have been incredible. Everyone sleeps better and seems more relaxed. I’ve dropped seven pounds in bloat and have been gaining muscle. I’m in less overall daily pain (Autoimmune disorders are hell and tons of people are helped by this.) I have better cravings and have helped several of my friends feel this good, too. It was never about the money, but who doesn’t want a Lexus or an IPad for helping people who don’t want to be miserable and sick?
