I spend a lot of time on Pinterest; what Mom doesn’t? Around the holidays I look for new items I could craft up and make my own. I found something similar to this Love Never Fails Pallet and I decided to make it my own.
I have an abundance of craft supplies in my house; some are hoarded craft supplies and some are important can’t live without them supplies (some people would say there is no difference). I do own a few machines to craft on and look forward to adding to my craft machine collection in the future (and honey if you are reading this, we will talk about that later). But don’t worry if you don’t own the fancy craft machines, you can still do this craft.
Let’s grab our supplies:
Now, I did not make the pallet board myself. I grabbed a bundle of them almost a year ago for a different Valentine’s Day pallet craft that some moms and I did together. You can find similar ones here. You can also find them at most local craft stores.
First, I sanded down my board to make a smooth surface. This step is only needed if yours doesn’t have a smooth surface, so gage it out. I do suggest, if you are sanding, to use an electric sander- it makes the job super easy!!
Once my board was sanded, I wiped it down with a damp cloth to get rid of all the wood glitter (aka sawdust). That makes sure your wood is prepped and ready to be painted.
Once the pallet was ready to be painted, I did SEVERAL coats of a pearly white acrylic paint onto the front. I was going for a very soft look for this pallet. You can paint the base coat whatever your little heart desires. What colors scream LOVE to you?
I let the paint dry, which doesn’t take very long with acrylic paints (one of the many reasons I love using them in my projects). Once the paint was dry, I applied my vinyl stencil to the pallet. I did this in stages, because, if you know me, applying large pieces of vinyl scares me just a little. You can grab the vinyl stencil from my shop here.
Once the vinyl was stuck down to the wood, I put another coat of my pearly white paint Now, you might be questioning me at the moment, I hear you. The reason I put that coat down is to prevent as much bleeding under the stencil as possible. Even with that extra coat, bleeding can still happen. Once that coat was dried, I went to town with my current favorite color, rose gold!!!!
Once everything was dry, it was time to take off the vinyl. I know it’s a little scary, but go slow and it will be just fine!! If you need help getting the small bits off either use a dentist pick, tweezers (not your good ones, the ones you dropped a few times), or (in a pinch) a paperclip unfolded.
Once all the vinyl is removed, touch up any areas you feel need retouching. And then take a step back and admire your new sign.
I would love to hear what colors you used for your craft!! Get creative!! You could stain the wood and then use some white paint for the words or you could go very bold with your colors. Either way, make it completely yours!!
