Over the weekend we celebrated our son’s first birthday. It was chaos, but fun chaos. I originally thought we’d do a lumberjack-themed party because they had really cute ideas on Pinterest. Then, a fellow 1-year-old mom said they were doing her daughter’s favorite book theme for her party. What a great idea?! Jackson isn’t into many characters just yet, if any, but he is OBSESSED with his nighttime book, Little Blue Truck.

After a quick Pinterest and Etsy search, turns out people have Little Blue Truck parties on the reg. I knew what I had to do. Lumberjack theme out… Little Blue truck in.
I hit up the local Dollar Tree for some party decor {this is always my first stop}. I found cute blue and white plaid plastic tablecloths {not sold online}. From there I stuck with the blue and white theme and added in red here and there. If you’ve read Little Blue Truck {linked below}, it includes lots of different animals that help Little Blue Truck save the Dump truck from the mud. I used balloons to bring the story and decor together {also linked below}. I priced out some party stores to blow up the balloons, but they trying to charge me a ridiculous amount, so I purchased a helium tank at Walmart {linked Amazon below, Walmart was cheaper}. This filled all the animal balloons and some latex ones too.
I did mums in apple baskets on the tables, for simple centerpieces that I could transition to our fall decor post party.
We used Smoke-N-Grille catering in Hamilton Square, NJ. We had ribs, pulled pork, chili, chicken, roasted veggies, mac-n-cheese, mashed potatoes, & broccoli slaw salad. I ordered trays from Chik-Fil-A & Philly Pretzel Factory for the kids. Let’s just say we will have food for days.
Onto dessert… I love sweets. Whenever I have an event where cupcakes are needed, I use Veranda Cake Company. Erin makes the BEST cupcakes! If I could do auto-deliver cupcakes, I would. However, that would not be the best thing for my diet and desire to fit in my clothes. Jackson loved the vanilla cupcake with vanilla buttercream icing. I have a little under a dozen leftover and they’ll be gone by the end of the week, for sure.
No party is complete without some Etsy purchases, so here are a few I got:
Little Blue Truck Highchair Banner
Little Blue Truck Birthday Hat {you can definitely make this one yourself}
We had close to 60 family members come over to celebrate our little man. Good food, drinks, games, dessert and ended the night with a bonfire. I can’t believe we made it to 1 already, the year flew by!
