What is your favorite Halloween tradition or memory?
That’s the question that we asked our contributors. Here’s what they had to say:
My favorite tradition is to go trick or treating. My favorite costume growing up was a reindeer.
Carrie
My kids always find it funny looking at pics of me in Halloween costumes when I was a kid. My favorite is the time my mom painted my face green so I could be a stellar Wicked Witch of the West.
Celeste
My favorite tradition was Mischief Night. We’d toilet paper the neighbors’ houses, write on their car windows with soap, and put shaving cream under the car door handles. We did it together with all the other kids on the block and we’re basically just getting each other’s houses, so it was all in good fun. It was the most fun when the parents got in on it, too.

My favorite thing about Halloween as a kid was we were always off school the day after because we were in Catholic school and the next day is All Saints Day (a Holy day of obligation). Also, I used to set up a store in my room, put all my candy I was willing to trade on my bed and open up my store to my siblings to come in and trade candy.
Chelsea
My favorite costume growing up was a time when I was grapes. Purple sweats with purple balloons pinned to them with a green hat. I remember being this kindergarten age kid, literally covered in balloons while eating candy. Those are most of the elements of my daughter’s best dreams.

I absolutely love dressing up with my kids and my coworkers each year. It makes me feel like a kid all over again. Seeing their faces light up when they get to say those 3 magic words….Trick or Treat…is just about all a parent could ask for. We also like to play board games and put on a kid friendly Halloween movie to round out our night.

One tradition I like to participate in is the Teal Pumpkin Project.
Claire
There’s magic in the night when pumpkins glow by moonlight!
