So it’s that time of year again, Valentine’s Day. And although the gift market is geared more towards women, we can’t leave the men in our life out. If you are anything like me, you’ve given the usual suspects. What are those usual suspects, you might ask? A quick internet search will show the most popular Valentine’s gifts for men are cologne, watches, and also ties for the businessmen. And while these gifts are still great, it is also a great idea to try and break out of that rut of buying the “same old” standby gift. I, for one, know that I have been guilty of doing this and am looking for something new this year. So here are just a few out of the box ideas when it comes to gift-giving for your man.
For Those Sentimental Guys
Trust me, I am not disillusioned into thinking that all men are sentimental. But there are a few of them out there that probably do better at remembering important dates or sweet words said even better than us ladies do. And just as special as they are, their gift needs to be just as phenomenal. So if you have one of these special men in your life, might I suggest something personalized. Two of my favorite sites that can help with a one-of-a-kind gift are Personal Creations and Shutterfly. So whether you are wanting to make a special coffee mug for your favorite caffeine junky or a garage sign for your favorite auto mechanic, either site has loads of options. And if you want to do something sentimental, but not break the bank, I suggest visiting Dodo Burd or DIY Enthusiasts for some amazing ideas for homemade gifts. I did a few of these myself several years ago.
Gift Subscriptions
Just like with the previous idea, this gift can be personalized to fit that man in your life. But this could be seen as the “gift that keeps on giving”. Here are a few of my favorite subscription ideas:
Magazine
Whether your husband loves to watch sports, go out hunting or fishing, or stay in and keep up with the New York Stock Exchange, there truly is a magazine out there for everyone. If you think this may be the route you want to take for your guy, I suggest visiting Amazon or Magazines.com for the widest variety and some of the lowest rates found online.
Favorite Food
This idea is one that has intrigued me. Years ago there were few options as far as food subscriptions went. Since 1953, Omaha Steaks has participated in mail-order delivery of their products. In the last 70 years, several companies have joined the ranks when it comes to delivering quality food for every occasion. Man Crates, Mantry, Cratejoy and Butcher Box are just a few of the many flocked to websites when looking for the perfect food subscription box for men.
Television Package
This is one gift that I have done in previous years that was thoroughly enjoyed by my husband. And it also stands the opportunity to be personalized. Most cable/satellite providers offer sports packages of some sort and they break it down to each sport. Major League Baseball offers its Extra Innings package through both DirectTV and Dish networks, as well as most cable providers. In recent years, the National Football League has begun offering Sunday Ticket, the National Basketball Association has presented League Pass and the National Hockey League has proffered Center Ice.
Experiences
Last, but certainly not least on my suggestions for the perfect out of the box gift idea for him is a “One of a Kind” experience.
Sports Games
I know that sports games may not be on top of everyone’s agenda. However, they do rank pretty high up there for many men. And whether they are willing to say it or not, they would probably enjoy it if you would go with them. Now if it just isn’t in the cards for you to attend a game with your significant other, I still recommend getting them a second ticket and suggesting they take a friend or if you have an older child, maybe one of the kids.
Hunting/Fishing Trip
Another great idea that many may not have thought about is to send your honey on a hunting or fishing trip to go after that elusive prey they have yet to catch. Double T Outfitters boasts the opportunity to hunt some of Wyoming’s biggest game in its natural environment. Still wanting to pull the trigger, but looking more towards the sky than the land, check out the Paul Nelson Farm for some of the best pheasant hunting that South Dakota has to offer. And if a rod and reel are more your man’s style, Key Largo Fishing Adventures and Anchors Away Charters both guarantee the catch of a lifetime in some of Florida’s beautiful waters.
This list is barely scratching the surface of all there is to be found when looking for an out-of-the-box gift idea for your guy this Valentine’s Day. Have you ever tried something different for a gift idea? If so, what was it and did your significant other like it?
