2022 – The Year of Finding You
Why You Should Find A New Hobby
I think so many of us have heard someone say “get a new hobby” at some point in our lives. And while the phrase was more meant as a way to tell a person to to stop focusing or obsessing on a specific thing, it really is an excellent suggestion. While surfing the net one day this summer, I ran across the 10 Reasons Why You Need A Hobby To Improve Your Life on Hello Peaceful Mind. I won’t go in depth about what all it says, but the blog had some super valid points. Finding a new hobby can help your life and mind for that matter in many ways. Whether it is taking a break from your life, meeting new people, having fun, or just the fact that you are doing something for yourself, a new hobby can present several benefits to you.
So What Are My Hobbies?
I figured before I really focused on a new hobby, I would need to look at what I consider my current hobbies.
- Cooking – unless you have been living under a rock, you know I absolutely adore cooking and baking.
- Reading – When I find a very rare spare moment, I love to find a quiet corner and dive into a good book.
- Magnet Collecting – This one may sound odd, but it is a favorite pastime. I love the fact that my magnets either bring back memories of places that I have visited or that they bring feelings from deep within for their inspirational quotes.
- Traveling – Traveling is essentially my number one bucket list goal. I always tell people when asked what is on the top of that list, that I would love to one day say I have traveled to all 50 states in the U.S.A. along with a few choice countries (Australia, Ireland, and Switzerland I’m looking at you).
New Hobbies To Try
While I ultimately didn’t need a list of hobbies to decide what I would like to put more time and effort into, I love the fact that there are websites out there to help everyone. I was absolutely floored when I came across Discover A Hobby. I spent way too long just going through their lists. And while you can use the lists on the site, you can also talk to your friends and family. Ask them what it is that they like to do in their free time. You may just find that someone close to you will be the inspiration for your next new thing.
Why Photography?
Now that you’ve made it this far down the blogpost you may be asking, “why are there so many pictures that have nothing to do with her hobbies?”. The answer is simple. Photography is the hobby I have begun leaning into. I really think my pull towards photography is the same reason that I like collecting magnets. There’s just something about the ability to hold memories or an image that brings a smile to my face. And while I have zero plans to become a professional photographer, it is nice to have something new to bring happiness to my soul.
