Here are the most recommended fall dishes from the people nearest and dearest to me.
Some people may be feeling the impending doom that winter brings. I am not one of those people. Fall is my favorite season and I welcome it with open arms.
As the first cold snap of fall has finally decided to take place, I couldn’t help but ask my friends and family one simple question. That question was something I tend to ask every year. What was my inquiry to those who are closest to me? It was simple. What is your favorite fall recipe or dish?
There were definitely a few standouts that were suggested over and over again.
Chili
My go-to on that first cold weekend night of fall is always chili. There is just something about the mixture of meat, spices, and vegetables that scream comfort on a cold evening. I may have shared this recipe once or twice over at Ur Basic Mom. It’s super easy to make and doesn’t take all day.
Potato Soup
The next suggestion that was recommended by numerous family and friends was potato soup. I have a few that I fall back on. The one that is made most often in my house is the Bacon Cheeseburger Potato Soup from Life in the Lofthouse. I also have to add that when we are wanting something a little less meaty, we go right for the Pioneer Woman’s Perfect Potato Soup.
Beef Stew
Thick, hearty, meaty, filling. What do all of those words have in common? They are all words that I would use to describe the beef stew that I make. I struggled to find a recipe that my family loved. That all changed 2 years ago when I came across the beef stew recipe penned by Holly at Spend with Pennies.
Along with the repeatedly suggested dishes above, there were also a few ideas that sounded like winners to my family.
Gumbo
Our Family is no stranger to a warm pot of Gumbo, but it is something that I do not always think of as a Fall dish. But who am I to argue with my friends and family when they have such amazing ideas. For a mouth watering batch of gumbo that will fill you up and put a smile on your face, stop on over at i Save A to Z.
Green Chili Stew
I am not going to lie, this is a new one for me. But it is a recipe that my husband and I both wanted to try. So a quick shout out needs to be made to my friend Leanne from Texas for making such a scrumptious suggestion. Now I am not a native Texan, so I can’t say for certain that the recipe we tried is completely authentic, but I can say that it is 100% amazing. The tasty recipe at Barefeet in the Kitchen was easy to follow. I also loved that there was a stove-top version and a crock pot version of the recipe.
There was also that one item that kept getting suggested to accompany the soups and stews above. What is better than a nice hot slice of cornbread to sop up that brothy goodness? In my book, absolutely nothing.
Cornbread
Rachel over at Feast and Farm is a self proclaimed “scratch cook” with a penchant for getting back to homemade meals and reducing the amount of processed food that she serves her family. This cornbread is no exception.
So there it is. The most suggested dishes, or should I say bowls of yumminess, from my friends and families. I’ll take their advice over a chef’s any day. And why is that? Simply because they are foodies just like myself. So if you are looking for something to warm yourself up this fall, I definitely suggest giving one of these a try.
