Going outside to chase my kids around, setting up the kiddie pool and hauling all our gear to and from the sandy beach has gotten, well, OLD. I am not a summer person. I always start out enthusiastic, but inside, I cannot wait to pack up the shorts and tank tops and wave goodbye for another year. All I can think about as soon as August hits is “I am so ready for fall.”
Yes, I’m one of those dreaded, jump-the-gun, excited for pumpkin everything, breaking out my sweaters and hoodies fall fangirls. But it’s a double-edged sword for me, as I live in the Midwest (outside of Chicago), which means that we have the most gorgeous fall days, but they are so fleeting and do not last long.
So, I’ve decided that this year, I’m going to make a Fall Bucket List for my family so we can soak up all the goodness of fall before winter arrives and we are likely housebound for 2-3 months.
- Pick your own apples at an orchard
- Run through a corn maze
- Carve a pumpkin
- Host or attend a bonfire
- Eat apple cider doughnuts, preferably freshly made ones
- Make apple cider, apple crisp at home
- Jump in a big pile of leaves
- Make leaf art
- Go on a hayride
- Visit a haunted house
Just making this list has me wondering if it’s too early to put up my fall wreath and pumpkin decor. I know the answer is yes, but I cannot wait for that cool, crisp breeze in the air and the smells of cinnamon through my house. If loving fall is wrong, I don’t want to be right.
