Drugstore Favorites {quality finds for less}

Posted on June 1, 2018May 23, 2019 by The Basic Moms

Going into the drugstore and trying to find makeup that works for you is a scary thought (or is that just me)!?! I will be honest, I am a lover of makeup from Ulta and Sephora, not the drugstore. But, when I knew that I wanted to include beauty into my blogging, I knew that I would have to venture into the world of drugstore makeup! Surprisingly, it isn’t that scary, unless you are picking out a foundation. I have been trying and testing makeup from the drugstore for months, and I have found some items that I am happy using and a couple that have become everyday staples in my collection.

I have also created a simple look using all my favorite products you can see how I created this eye look down below!!  Just don’t mind the mom hair, you know the look #messybun.

Here’s the youtube tutorial for the eye look:

So let’s take away some of that overwhelming feeling you get when you walk into the beauty section! Here are my favorites from the drugstore.

Primer – NYX Angel Veil This primer is my all time favorite from the drugstore, it is a dupe for the Hourglass Mineral Veil primer, minus the sunscreen

Foundation – For me the Maybelline Fit Me Matte and Poreless foundation is my favorite from the drug store. I find that it stays and controls my oil for most of the day (I do have very oily skin).

If you are dry, then I would go for the Maybelline Fit Me Dewy and Smooth foundation, I have tried this one and it looks gorgeous on my skin, but sadly for me and my oily face, it didn’t last very long.

Concealer – This concealer is relatively new to me, but I cannot put it down. I have had it for a little over a month, and it is the one I reach for every day. The Makeup Revolution Conceal and Define concealer, are perfect for my skin. It has great coverage and doesn’t feel heavy or dry under my eyes.

Powder – I love the Maybelline Fit Me Loose Powder for setting my foundation. It gives a little extra coverage while helping smooth out the skin beautifully.

Bronzer – The NYX Matte Bronzer is super pigmented (yes I have made the mistake of not tapping off the excess from my brush). I was bronzed to the high heavens that day. I like this one because it isn’t orangy on me and it gives me the perfect bronzed face without any shimmer.

Blush – The Baked Blush by Milani is my favorite, I have the color Luminoso which is a color that is close to Nars Orgasm. It does contain shimmer, so if you are a matte blush lover, look for one that doesn’t have shimmer in it. It is a gorgeous peachy color on the cheeks.

Highlighter – Some might not be a highlight-until-the-gods-can-see-you kind of girl like me, but the Master Chrome highlighters from Maybelline are amazing. They are such a gorgeous formula and can give a subtle glow when using a light hand or a you-glow-girl kind of glow(I’m the latter). My favorite one is the rose gold; it’s just perfect for my skin tone.

Eyeshadow Palette – I was thrilled when Makeup Revolution came out with the Reloaded palettes. I secretly like them because of their dupeness (is that a real word?) for higher end palettes. I love their formula for a drugstore brand and their colors when compared to the high end counterpart, are pretty spot on!!  And let’s face it for $7 you can’t beat it!!

Eyeliner – Now I have three favorites because what I do with my eyeliner depends on my mood. If I am not feeling extra that day, I love using the NYX Slide On Liner in my waterline, I use it on my upper waterline. I pop a dark brown into my upper waterline, to give the appearance of fuller lashes. I do like a nude on the bottom to fake being awake, my favorite is Rimmel Scandaleyes. For doing a wing, my hands-down favorite is NYX Epic Ink Liner, it is waterproof and for this girl that is a must!!! My eyes never fail to water once I have done a winged eyeliner!!!

Mascara – My favorite of the moment is NYX Worth the Hype mascara. I find that right now this is the only one that doesn’t smudge on my oily skin. Smudged mascara is not a cute look!!

Brows – I have two products that I rarely stray from unless I am testing out a new product. My favorite pencil is the NYX Precision Brow, it is so easy to use and gets my brows into shape quickly. I like to top my brows with the Essence Make Me Brow, to hold them in place and give a little extra “umph” to my brows. The Make Me Brow gel has fibers in it to add some extraness to your brows.

Lips – I am not a huge fan of the liquid lipstick or matte lip; give me a nice creamy lipstick and I’m happy. But, I have found one matte lipstick that I can live with and it is the NYX Soft Matte Lip Creme. It isn’t crunchy or hard; it is very soft and does dry down. Sometimes I will throw on a NYX Butter Gloss on top and that’s my perfect combination.

I would love to hear your favorites from the drugstore!!! Is there something out there that I should be adding to my collection?  Let me know!
