When trying to decide what to write about for July, several topics came to mind:
*July 4th/Independence Day
*Summer Vacations
*More “woe-is-me summer break is not as fun as a mom as it was when I was a kid”
After nixing those ideas and searching a little more, I realized that National Cheesecake Day is July 30th. Yippee! Cheesecake is my very favorite dessert in the world. The velvety smooth, creamy texture is pure heaven. Throw a chocolate cookie crust on that bad boy and that’s all she wrote! I was ready to go and had big plans to bake my favorite cheesecake and share the recipe along with stunning pictures. Such a wonderful idea, but to put it into reality is not going to happen.
A little unknown fact about me: When I bake I am a perfectionist. It’s probably the only time in my life that perfection is an aim, I will not accept anything I deem as sub-par. With the aforementioned “summer break” in full tilt, perfection and baking is a little out of my scope with my sweet 2 ½-year-old boy running amuck. Some would ask, “Why not let him help?” If I were baking cookies, sure, no problem. Even a cake for our household would get a ‘touch of Noah’, but not something I want to share with the world!
So, I did the next best thing: called up my parents and talked them into going to have lunch at The Cheesecake Factory. Score! Not only was I getting some top-notch cheesecake, but I was also getting to have a conversation with real adult people and my parents nonetheless! Granted, my son did come along but we were not surrounded by cartoons, nursery rhymes, or the dreaded Baby Shark video marathons on YouTube. You all will be happy to know that The Cheesecake Factory is celebrating National Cheesecake day on July 30th and offering a special Pineapple Upside Down cheesecake that day. I may have to go in and see what that is all about too!
If you’re not familiar with the Cheesecake Factory, I’m sorry but you are missing out big time! In my opinion, the food is really good, the atmosphere is laid back and the wait staff is attentive but not intrusive. They have a menu roughly the size of a short novel and the cheesecakes and desserts take up 2 pages!
We finished our lunch and next up was the arduous task of choosing which cheesecake to get! I settled for Adam’s Peanut Butter Fudge Ripple (OMG! It was everything I needed it to be) and my mom got Lemon Meringue Pie.
While eating our dessert I shared my dislike for lemon meringue and in turn, I learned that my step-dad doesn’t really care for cheesecake. I lovingly told him that was silly and insisted he eat some. He tried the lemon and said that the meringue was amazing. I rolled my eyes, we laughed, finished our food and took my son to ride the carousel.
I hope you all get a chance to celebrate National Cheesecake Day on July 30th and have some yummy cheesecake. I might just have to find my way back at the restaurant, this time with some girlfriends for drinks and dessert 😉
