The new year is finally here although many of us don’t want to believe it. That means another year older and new goals that must be set. But I think one goal that is always consistent, is to have better health. I know, I know, you don’t want to think about getting healthier, but none of us are getting any younger and our children are still driving us crazy. So why not carve out a little “me time” and work out some stress. Did I mention it’s a chance to have “me time?” But don’t worry, your favorite mommy friend (me) has my top 5 tips to reach your weight loss goals this year!
- Find a workout time and stay consistent– This is the most difficult of all the tips but will make your life so much easier in the grand scheme of things. Find a time you can work out and don’t set unrealistic goals. For example, if you have small children and can only work out for 10 minutes during nap time, then do it and stick to it. No matter what, workout on the days you set.
- Accountability Partner– Everyone has a friend that takes pride in reminding you of what you need to do or how you can do things better. Don’t roll your eyes at them, use them to your advantage. Just simply ask them to send you a, “hey, how was your workout today?” Or “what’s on the menu tonight?” You can also find another friend who has plans to reach their weight loss goals this year. The both of you can work out together and share meal ideas. Understand that you may not be the person that can work out alone just yet.
- Find a workout group – In my town, we have a few mommy workout groups and a yoga class that a local woman does in her home. The point is to be creative and not get bored every day you aren’t going to go to the gym or working out in your home. Don’t be too hard on yourself when working out. Take what you can, just make sure you are doing it and have fun. Workout groups provide you with a routine that you don’t have to think about, a chance to bond with others and experience a different environment.
- Try a low carb lifestyle– Ok, I know this is very specific as a recommendation, but after you talk to a doctor and you have the ok to do so, I think most people would enjoy this type of lifestyle. I love that I can still have most things I love, but in a creative way. Pinterest is full of food recommendations, amazing and filling alternatives to the carbs you may love. For example, pizza is my weakness, I would probably trade an arm for it…. yes, I said it. My alternative is the popular, “fathead” crust. It’s made of different cheeses and almond flour. This crust will change the way you view life and diet food.
- Preportioned meals- Have you noticed the amount of food we put on our plates at each meal? I’m going to give you a simple trick. Starting off, don’t use a scale if you don’t want to, just put a little less food on your plate at each meal. Start slow, this is not a race, it’s your life. So, at each meal, if you gradually start to portion your meals a little smaller your body will notice your changes. Just take your time and stick with it.
See! That was simple right?
I could give you several tips to reach your weight loss goals this year, but the best thing to do is to start! Even if you fail the first 30 times (raises hand), pick yourself up, start over and keep trying. Take these tips and apply them to your life the best way you can. Moms are superheroes, don’t forget to save yourself too.
